Similar to the printed catalogue, the online catalogue contains a photo and a short description of the essential functions and features of each product (figure 1). With just one mouse click, the user can generate the data sheet “on demand” as a printable, PDF or MS Excel file from the up-to-date database, currently in as much as 8 languages. In the “document” section, wiring and mounting instructions, declarations of conformity and prototype test certificates can be downloaded in the different languages.
Each product furthermore has a menu option “Images”, where dimensional drawings, product photos, contact diagrams, assembly drawings and much more are available for download. This feature provides the manufacturer with a “toolbox”, which he can also integrate in his CAD drawings or his documentation.

These tools are advantageous, when the manufacturer already knows which products are to be used. At least as informative is the new online catalogue, when he is looking for (safety) switchgear with specific technical features for an existing construction. In this case, the “product selection” function enables an oriented search for, e.g. a safety switch with two safety contacts and one auxiliary contact or a safety sensor with a particular switching distance. If the search function produces multiple hits, a comparative list containing a clear overview of the essential features and data of the components can be created (figure 2).

The road from product selection to ordering is short as well. Through the basket function, prices and delivery times can be inquired, provided that the user is registered. The information and search functions however can be consulted at all times without registration at www.schmersal.net.
