Schmersal develops and produces an extraordinary wide range of high-quality switchgears for the protection of machines and plants in industrial automation and lift industry.

In the "Safe Switching and Monitoring" section, you will find an extraordinary large programme of safety-related switchgears for the position monitoring of guard doors and the non-contact protection of hazardous zones and danger points, as well as safety switching appliances for special applications.

In the "Safe Signal Processing" section, you will find safety relay modules for various safety technology applications (e.g. for emergency stop and guard door monitoring) as well as centralised programmable safety controllers and decentralised field bus systems, e.g. a modular concept for safety functions control on small machines.

In the "Automation Technology" section, you will find switching appliances for the mechanical position detection in various fields of application as well as (safety) sensors with different operating principles; this section furthermore includes a comprehensive programme of command and signalling devices.

The "Ex Switchgear" includes switchgears, which can be used - in accordance with the harmonised standards - in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres due to the presence of gas and dust, e.g. position switches, safety switches and safety sensors with non-contact operating principle.

In the "Lift Switchgears" section, you will find lift switchgears for various applications in the shaft pit, the lift car and the machine room: floor and fine-adjustment switches, positive-break door contacts, position switches, magnetic reed switches, remote alarm systems as well as the USP ultrasonic elevator positioning system.

Compact position switch with safety function Z/T 196
Smaller than a standardised switch – smooth fitting.
The Z/T 196 position switch range with safety function, an innovation from the Schmersal Group, is extremely compact. Although fixing and mounting dimensions are identical, the compact switch requires less mounting space than conventional standardized switches. With a height of only 20 mm and three possible cable or connector positions, the switch will enable in many cases a reduction of the required size of the safety components themselves.

The new switch series is available with optional slow or snap action contact variants. A high quality contact system with built in redundancy makes the switch particularly suitable for low voltage switching. From a wide variety of actuators, the user can select between plungers, roller plungers, angled roller levers and rod levers.

The switch can be connected either with conventional AMP positive lock connectors, 6.35 x 0.8 mm spade connectors or a four-pole connector plug (M12). The Z/T 196 series can alternatively be supplied pre-wired with a selection of
standardised lengths.

These options provide for an optimal adjustment of the compact safety switchgear, which meets the exacting standards of elevator technology and machinery safety, to the application concerned. The switch can be used for safety-related applications in mechanical engineering, especially for series-wiring, where a particular profitable assembly is enabled due to the optional pre-wiring or the cable connection per connector

Another field of application for the new switch series is the passive safety circuit of elevators: the Z/T 196 can be used for example as slack-wire or safety catch switch, movable buffer or buffer monitoring switch.
