Social responsibility

The company management and business relationships of the Schmersal Group are based on the principle that every company has corporate responsibility and pursues ethical principles accordingly.

The Schmersal Group has therefore signed the "Code of Conduct" of the ZVEI (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e. V.). As a signatory company, this means Schmersal accepts responsibility by considering the impact of our company decisions and actions in an environmental, technological, social and ecological respect and ensures reasonable balancing of interests in this respect. Where possible, we also contribute to the well-being and sustainable development of global society at the sites from which we work.

Schmersal sees itself not only as a business, but also as a “Corporate Citizen”. We want to be good neighbours and partners to the community across all our production sites. So we support local educational establishments like the University of Wuppertal and sponsor activities such as local charity initiatives and sports clubs. In conjunction with the Indian-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) in India, Schmersal is supporting a long-term project to promote commercial and technical training in the state of Maharashtra.

We also bear social responsibility for our employees. Our action is driven by offering them good, secure jobs on a long-term basis. In Brazil, Schmersal won the international “Great Place to Work” competition for the fifth time in a row. The competition is based on criteria like workplace culture, management, team spirit, trust and identification.

Company kindergarden

This social responsibility towards our staff is also reflected in the kindergarten, which was opened at the premises of the Wuppertal headquarters early 2008. This kindergarten enables our (female) collaborators smoother combining their professional career with their family life. The pedagogic objectives of the kindergarten are challenging as well: as children are already highly receptive and eager to learn at pre-school age and actually „learn by play“, this receptivity and learning ability will deliberately be stimulated.
