Quality Management at Elan and in the Schmersal Group

Elan works on the basis of a QM system which is certified to ISO 9001.

Quality assurance is understood at Elan as a permanent task and a dynamic process. In 1996 the quality management system of the company was certified to DIN EN ISO 9001 by the Berufgenossenschaft der Feinmechanik und Elektrotechnik. In this connection a certification to Module E (quality assurance products to 93/465/EEC) was made. This was followed in June 2002 by the certification to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000.

The QM standards of the group companies worldwide are currently being unified and optimised. This is a challenge, because in the course of this re-organisation the whole management system is being re-structured. The new QM system is process-oriented and will also integrate the safety at work and environmental protection requirements in the medium term. The new system will increase process security by means of firm measurement and characteristic value requirements. Responsibilities will be more clearly regulated, the sequences arranged in a more systematic and transparent way. This task of re-structuring the QM system, which is being entrusted to a central QM group with functions across locations, is considered very important within the Schmersal Group. The reasons are:

  • A transparent and systematic approach will bring process security.
  • Process security is the optimum path to quality.
  • Quality fulfills a quite appreciable condition for customer satisfaction.
  • Satisfied customers secure our future.
